Assam CM Himanta Reveals Why PM Modi Is Not Visiting Violence-Hit Manipur: WATCH

Sarma's words come as the Congress has been criticising the BJP-led government at the Centre over Manipur.

Coming down heavily on Congress over PM Modi's silence on Manipur issue, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday stated that the "PM has visited northeast 60 times." Speaking with media, CM Sarma stated: "PM Modi knows everything, he is guiding everything. We know that he is in command. You must see the wisdom of PM when he will answer on the no-confidence motion."

Sarma  further slammed the grand old party for the violent situation in Manipur, holding it accountable for enacting "wrong" policies during its previous administration, which produced turmoil in the northeastern state.

Sarma's words come as the Congress party has been criticising the BJP-led government at the Centre over Manipur, which has been in upheaval for more than three months and has claimed the lives of over 150 people. Earlier, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said: "BJP despite having two MPs from the Northeast, didn't give them a chance to speak today. Just like Congress gave a chance to a representative from the Northeast to be the speaker today, they should have asked their MPs from the Northeast to speak and tell the actual situation of the state. This shows that they are ignoring the Manipur issue. Now I doubt whether the PM will speak in Parliament or not?"

The chief minister told a press conference that "divide and rule" was the characteristic of Congress' agenda in the northeast.

“The Congress hands so far Northeast region is concerned are full with blood whether it is Nagaland, Mizoram, Assam, Manipur or other parts of the Northeastern region," he stated.

Continuing his diatribe, the CM said that administrations led by the Congress at the Centre implemented the incorrect policies during the formation years, which is why numerous problems exist in the northeast area.

"I want to clearly state that because of the wrong policy adopted by the Congress Party during the formative years, today Northeastern state is not able to resolve various disputes that exist in our region from the time we've attained freedom," he said.
