52 Rohingyas Arrested This Year In Tripura: Police

Tripura DIGP Manchak Ipper stated that the state police have a separate action plan in place to catch Rohingyas who have invaded Tripura and are making their way to other states.

Guwahati: Tripura Police is very alert against any attempt by Rohingyas to infiltrate the state, said Manchak Ipper, DIGP, adding that 52 Rohingyas had been arrested this year.

Tripura DIGP Manchak Ipper stated that the state police have a separate action plan in place to catch Rohingyas who have invaded Tripura and are making their way to other states.

Tripura Police has a countrywide network to track down unlawful trespassing Rohingyas who are trying to enter India through whatever ways possible these days, he added.

Speaking with reporters, Tripura's Deputy Inspector General of Police Manchak Ipper said: “We have increased our efforts to nab the Rohingya refugees. They are being arrested and cases registered. Our focus is also on the “border touts” who help them enter the country. Our men are active on the ground and on the job to find out the vulnerable points and routes from where they sneak into the state.”

“As a result, we have been able to nab a good number of these refugees. Our coordination is good with our bordering states and we are working in tandem to yield a good result. We are strictly dealing with such infiltrators thus 52 of them have been arrested this year alone. Our efforts will continue in the days to come," DIGP Ipper added.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had raised concerns over a network of “border touts” that helps these refugees to enter Assam through the porous borders of Tripura.

Chief Minister Sarma had said that anyone who enters a country without a valid passport or visa is a “threat to the country's sovereignty.”
