14-Year-Old Madrassa Student Held For Kidnapping Minor in Assam’s Hojai
After several hours of intensive search, the police team managed to rescue the victim. The accused was also later apprehended by the police in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Guwahati: A 12-year-old madrassa student was allegedly kidnapped by another 14-year-old student of the same madrassa on Monday night. According to preliminary reports, the accused (name withheld), from Hojai Jamia Islamia Jalalia madrassa, allegedly abducted the minor boy and demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh from the parents of the victim. The accused threatened the parents of the minor victim of dire consequences and threatened to kill him if they failed to pay the ransom. The parents of the victim immediately lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Hojai Police station against the accused, narrating the whole incident.
A team from the Hojai Police Station soon swung into action and launched a massive search operation to rescue the minor victim from the clutches of the kidnapper.

Speaking to the press after being apprehended, the kidnapper said, “He is a student of the Hojai Jamia Islamia Jalalia madrassa, I kidnapped a junior boy from the same school. My purpose of kidnapping was money and I had put a demand of Rs five lakh. Three of us were involved in the kidnapping; I hail from Goalpara and have been living in these madrassa for about 10 years now. I kidnapped him for money. I demanded Rs 5 lakhs from his parents. Speaking to the media, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Pallab Tamuli said, “Last night at around 10 pm we received information that a student of Hojai’s Jalalia madrassa has been kidnapped and we also received the information that the kidnapper has demanded the father of the victim of several lakh of rupees. We launched a search operation to rescue the abducted boy immediately on receiving the information about his abduction. After almost three hours of a massive search, we could rescue the child and could also apprehend the kidnapper. Now we have started our investigating into the matter,”
“The kidnapper hails from Dudhnoi in Assam’s Goalpara district. We are questioning whether the kidnapper was alone in the kidnapping incident or he has some more accomplices,” the ASP said.
