New Delhi: US President Donald Trump lashed out at a CNN reporter who got into an argument with him at a press conference at the White House post the mid-term polls. Hours after the altercation, the White House suspended the press credentials of the journalist in an unprecedented move, terming the journo’s behaviour as "disgusting and outrageous".
In the press conference, CNN reporter Jim Acosta questioned Trump on the migrant caravan from Central America moving which was moving towards the United States which was termed ‘criminal’ by Trump. Trump, clearly displeased said, “I think you should let me run the country, you run CNN."
The journalist refused to hand over the microphone to a White House staffer, upon which Trump angrily commanded: “That's enough. Put down the mic."
Again when the same reporter asked whether Trump was worried about indictments coming down in this investigation, an irked Trump said, "I tell you what, CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them. You are a rude, terrible person, You shouldn't be working for CNN."
"I think, that's unfair," the CNN journalist responded.
Trump however continued, "You're a very rude person. The way you treat (White House Press Secretary) Sarah Huckabee Sanders is horrible and the way you treat other people are horrible. You shouldn't treat people that way."
When an NBC News reporter came to his fellow journalist's defense, the president said, "When you report fake news, which CNN does a lot, you are the enemy of the people."
Later , a black reporter asked Trump of what he thinks of some people’s opinion about the Republican party supporting white nationals. Trump accused the reporter of asking racist question. "I don't believe it...That's such a racist question. Honestly, I know you have it written down, that's a racist question...I don't use racist remarks," he said. Later, the CNN attacked Trump’s attitude towards media in its statement and said the President’s attack on the press, which is not only dangerous but also un-American, has gone too far. “While President Trump has made it clear he does not respect a free press, he has a sworn obligation to protect it”, the channel said.BREAKING: President Trump, CNN Correspondent Jim Acosta and @NBCNews Correspondent @PeterAlexander engage in tense exchanges in post-election news conference. pic.twitter.com/WUlXemGn7y
