WATCH | Afghan Girl Gets Emotional While Urging Taliban To Reopen Girls Schools

In a video recorded by Afghan news channel TOLO, a young girl can be seen crying while talking about the restrictions imposed on girls that prevent them from going to schools and studying.

New Delhi: The uncertainty over the education of girls in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan does not seem to end despite the ruling group asserting the reopening of schools for girls.

In a video, recorded by Afghan news channel TOLO, a young girl can be seen crying while talking about the restrictions imposed on girls that prevent them from going to schools and studying.

The girl in the video then urged the Islamic Emirate to reopen schools for girls across the country. Even the mothers accompanying the girls to schools made the same request.

Although the Taliban administration has said that it will open schools and colleges for girls, it has not been accomplished entirely.

The universities in Afghanistan have been opened but with gender segregation rules.

In January 2022, the Taliban leaders had said that schools and colleges would be opened for girls on March 22, after the Afghan new year. However, they still remain closed.

While the Taliban has not officially banned girls from receiving education, schools in several parts of the country have been shut. Women students have been barred from public universities.

After Taliban took over last year, women over the age of 7 weren't allowed to attend schools. However, there was some hope after the regime announced to reopen schools and colleges for girls in January.

The return of women students to schools and colleges has been the topmost demand of the international community and women rights activists.
