US Nurse, Child Kidnapped In Haiti, American State Dept In Touch With Haitian Authorities

A US nurse and her child have been kidnapped in Haiti. The American State Department confirmed it was in touch with Haitian authorities and was aware of the situation.

An American nurse and her child have been kidnapped in Haiti, a faith-based humanitarian aid organisation said on Saturday, as reported by Reuters. It said that US nurse Alix Dorsainvil and her child were kidnapped on the morning of July 27. Meanwhile, US State Department said it was aware of the development and is working with Haitian authorities to save the two US citizens.

"We can confirm that Alix Dorsainvil, our director’s wife, and their child were kidnapped on the morning of Thursday, July 27th from our campus near Port au Prince while serving in our community ministry," El Roi Haiti said on its website, as quoted by Reuters. 

A US State Department spokesperson said in a statement, "We are aware of reports of the kidnapping of two U.S. citizens in Haiti."  "We are in regular contact with Haitian authorities and will continue to work with them and our U.S. government interagency partners," he added.

As of now, there is no information on the age or gender of the child.
