At least three people died and 13 others were injured after a gunman opened fire near a nightclub in the US state of Mississippi on Monday. 

The shooting occurred on Church Street just after midnight, Fox 13 news reported quoting Mayor Ken Featherstone.

The mayor confirmed that three 19-year-old men were killed in the shooting, which included a total of 16 people being shot either directly or hit by ricochet bullets. 

Officials said no arrests have been made yet and an investigation is on.

The motive of the shooter is not known yet, Mayor Ken Featherstone said.
