Barack, Michelle Obama Endorse Kamala Harris As Democratic Presidential Pick: 'Will Do Everything To Make Sure You Win'

Former US President Barack Obama and his wife and former first lady Michelle Obama have endorsed US Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee.

Former United States President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle endorsed US Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee in a roughly one-minute long video of a private phone call. The video was shared by Obama on Friday on his X handle, wherein he can be heard telling Harris that "we will do everything to make sure you win".

Along with the clip between the current Vice President and the couple, Barack Obama tweeted: "Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend Kamala Harris. We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support. At this critical moment for our country, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you’ll join us."

The clip shows Harris proceeding towards her motorcade at an event, while she answers the phone call on speaker.

She becomes very happy when se gets to know that both Barack and Michelle are on the line together. 

"Oh, it’s good to hear you both," the US Vice President said.

'Couldn't Be Prouder To Endorse You': Barack Obama

"I can't have this phone call without saying to my girl Kamala: I am proud of you," Michelle Obama told Kamala, adding that the campaign is going to be "historic".

Following this, the former President says: "We called to say Michelle and I couldn't be prouder to endorse you and to do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office."

Hearing this Kamala Harris thanks them and expresses her gratitude for the endorsement and the long term friendship they share.

"Thank you both. It means so much. And we're gonna have some fun with this too," Harris said.

Kamala Harris also posted the same video clip on her X handle and wrote: "It means so much to have your endorsements, Michelle Obama and Barack Obama. Let’s get to work."

Harris has been gaining support from donors and politicians ever since she was nominated against Republican rival and former US President Donald Trump.

Till date, Obama continues to be one of the most pouplar figures in the Democratic party, even after a decade has passed since he was elected.

Previously, he has also lent support to the current President Joe Biden during money fundraisers. 

The endorsement signals that Obama might get on the campaign trail for Harris after she officially becomes the presumptive nominee, news agency Reuters reported.
