Scientist aged 104 dies on demand at 'suicide clinic' in Switzerland

New Delhi: David Goodall, the 104-year-old scientist who had been in news for his demand of assisted suicide has finally ended his life on Thursday with the help of a suicide clinic.

It is to be noted that voluntary euthanasia is legal in Switzerland.
He did not have a life-terminating disease but he had given up to old age as the quality of his life had deteriorated. He wanted to die.
Born in Edmonton, London, in 1914, Prof Goodall was considered a leading botanist and ecologist.
How he spent his last moments:
As per reports, Goodall enjoyed his final meal which included fish and chips. It was followed by a cheesecake.
How he took his life:
The scientist then took a fatal dose of the sleeping drug Nembutal.
Goodall has had a long career of 70 years with several distinguishing titles and honours to his name. He produced over 100 research papers in ecology. As per reports, in his later years, he edited the 30 volume series of Ecosystems of the World with over 500 authors.
