Pakistan Political Crisis | PTI Suggests Ex-SC Judge Sheikh Azmat Saeed As Caretaker PM: TV

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has suggested the name of former Supreme Court judge Sheikh Azmat Saeed for the position of interim Prime Minister of Pakistan. 

New Delhi: Amid the political crisis going on in Pakistan after the country's President Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly On Sunday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has now decided on the new caretaker PM of the country. PTI has suggested the name of former Supreme Court judge Sheikh Azmat Saeed for the position of interim Prime Minister of Pakistan. 

According to ABP News sources, PTI has confirmed that it would want ex-judge Azmat Saeed to become the new PM of Pakistan till elections are held.

Who is Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed?

According to a report by Geo News, Justice Azmat Saeed was born on August 28, 1954, in Rawalpindi. He pursued his primary education and graduation in Rawalpindi and obtained an LLB degree from  Punjab University Law College in Lahore in 1978.

 After completion of their apprenticeship was enrolled as an Advocate in 1978 and after working in various chambers Justice Azmat Saeed started his independent practice in Lahore in 1980. He was enrolled as an advocate of the Lahore High Court Lahore in 1980 and later became the advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in the subsequent year.

Along with serving as legal adviser to Lahore Development Authority and Special Prosecutor of Ehtesab Bureau, set up by Nawaz Sharif in 1997 and has worked in many high-profile cases.

Political Crisis In Pakistan

The development comes hours after Pakistan President Arif Alvi said that Imran Khan will remain the PM of Pakistan till the appointment of a caretaker PM under Article 224 A of the Pakistan Constitution.

"Mr. Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi, shall continue as Prime Minister till the appointment of caretaker Prime Minister under Article 224 A (4) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan," Alvi said in a tweet. 

Earlier on Sunday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was de-notified as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, in wake of the dissolution of the National Assembly by the President, according to an ANI report. 

A circular was issued by the government that said, "Consequent upon the dissolution of Pakistan Assembly by the President of Pakistan in terms of Article 58(1) read with Article 48(1) of the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan vide Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, dated 3rd April 2022, Mr Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi ceased to hold the office of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, with immediate effect."

The de-notification came hours after a day of fast-paced developments after Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri abruptly dismissed the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan  as "unconstitutional", saying that it was backed by "foreign powers".

After the dismissal of the no-trust vote, President Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly upon being adviced by Khan.
