Pakistan Passing Through Critical Phase: New Army Chief Calls For Unity To Tackle Terrorism, Economic Woes

The COAS appreciated the Pakistan Naval Academy for imparting quality education not only to Pakistani cadets but to the cadets of friendly countries, PTI reported.

New Delhi: Pakistan Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir on Saturday stated that the country is passing through a critical stage and that all stakeholders should work together to address the nation's two biggest problems of terrorism and the economy.

He further said that there is a need for the development of a national consensus regarding the country’s problems while addressing the commissioning parade of the 118th Midshipmen and 26th Short Service Commission at Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi, news agency PTI reported.

“(The) COAS stated that Pakistan is passing through one of her most critical junctures and this requires development of national consensus by all stakeholders to sail through the confronted challenges of economy and terrorism,” the Army said in a statement.

General Munir stated that the maritime domain is continuously shifting, mainly due to technological advancement and only those navies would prevail and prove effective that would align with professionalism and modern trends of warfare.

The COAS appreciated the Pakistan Naval Academy for imparting quality education not only to Pakistani cadets but to the cadets of friendly countries, PTI reported.

Munir also advised young officers to lead by their conduct, character, professional acumen and foresight as they are the future leaders of the nation.

He also congratulated the commissioning term for the successful completion of training and for becoming guardians of the maritime frontiers of Pakistan.

Earlier, on November 24, 2022, General Asim Munir, former chief of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, replaced General Qamar Javed Bajwa, who retired on November 29 after serving two consecutive three-year terms as Pakistan's Army chief in the coup-prone country, where the military wields considerable power in matters of security and foreign policy.

General Munir is the first army chief of Pakistan who has been chief of both Military Intelligence (MI) and the ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence).
