Who's the Indian man saved by NRI businessman?

Becks Krishnan, a native of Puthenchira in Thrissur district, was sentenced to death by UAE Supreme Court after he was found guilty of killing a young Sudanese boy. He was found guilty of driving recklessly and ramming his car into a group of children in September 2012.

On September 7, 2012, Krishnan was on his way to Musaffah for a job-related meeting when he lost control over the wheel and the car rammed into a group of kids playing on the roadside.

Since this incident, his family and friends were making efforts to get him released, but it was all in vain. In fact, the victim’s family also headed back and settled in Sudan, putting an end to any discussion or pardon.

It is when the Krishnan family turned to Yusuffali, Chairman of Lulu Group, who then sought details of the case and got in touch with all stakeholders.

After almost nine years in January 2021, the victim’s family in Sudan agreed to pardon Krishnan followed by which Yusuffali paid 500,000 Dirhams ( Rs1 crore approximately) as compensation in the court and managed to secure his s release, as per the PTI report.

While sharing his ordeal with the Indian embassy officials at Al Watba Jail in Abu Dhabi, a Krishnan said he could not believe the turn of events. “It’s a re-birth for me, as I had lost all hope of seeing the outside world, let alone a free life. My only wish now is to see Yusuffali once before flying to my family," Krishnan was quoted as saying.
