New Delhi: Amid the political turmoil in Pakistan, Imran Khan on Monday nominated former Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed as the caretaker Prime Minister of the country until elections are held, Pakistani news agency Dawn reported.
According to the report, CJP Gulzar Ahmed was the 27th chief justice of the country who was appointed in December 2019. Ahmed retired in February 2022.
The announcement of his nomination was made by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhary, who said that the decision was taken after a discussion with PTI’s core committee.
“In response to the President's letter, after consultation and approval from the PTI Corps Committee, Prime Minister Imran Khan has nominated former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed for the post of caretaker Prime Minister,” Chaudhary tweeted.

As per Dawn, the nomination came after a letter was written by President Dr Arif Alvi to Imran Khan and Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to propose names of suitable persons for appointment as caretaker PM under Article 224-A(1) of the Constitution.
The nomination of the caretaker PM comes in the backdrop of the Pakistan National Assembly being dissolved by the President after the no-trust motion was disallowed by the NA Deputy Speaker.
Imran Khan was de-notified as the PM of the country on Sunday but was supposed to continue until the caretaker PM was nominated.
Pakistan has been going through political turmoil for some time as Imran Khan alleged that the US was trying to oust him using the opposition and that there was a threat to his life.
