Imran Khan Arrested Outside IHC: Know All About Al-Qadir Trust Case Against Former Pak PM

Despite being registered as a trust, the Al-Qadir University, Imran Khan’s dream project, also charges fees from its students.

Former Pakistan prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan was arrested on Tuesday from outside the Islamabad High Court where he had gone to seek bail in multiple FIRs registered against him. The arrest was made by a team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) assisted by a large contingent of the Rangers personnel in the case related to Al-Qadir Trust.

According to Pakistani media, the Al-Qadir University, established in the year 2021 was Imran Khan’s dream project. The Al-Qadir University Project Trust was formed by Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and their close aide Zulfiqar Bukhari, known to be a business tycoon.

The Al-Qadir Trust Institute has managed to enroll only 100 students in almost 2 years out of which 41 were given admission in the first year, while 60 were enrolled in the second year.

Despite being registered as a trust, the institute also charges fees from its students.

As per the charges, the Khan and others accused allegedly adjusted 50 billion Pakistani rupee— 190 million pounds at the time — sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government, according to the local media house, GEO News.

They are also accused of getting undue benefit in the form of over 458 kanals of land at Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, to establish Al Qadir University, the media house further reported.

Meanwhile, Khan's party claimed the leader was arrested "violently" by Pakistani Rangers and was injured. PTI Vice President Fawad Chaudhry alleged in a tweet that Khan was abducted from the court premises, and scores of lawyers and people were tortured.

"Imran Khan has been whisked away by unknown people to an unknown location, CJ Islamabad High Court has ordered Secy Interior and IG police to appear within 15 min in the court," he added in his tweet.

Witnesses reported that Khan was apprehended and escorted away in a black Vigo vehicle.
