Give Shelter To Ukrainian Refugees And Get £350 A Month As 'Thank You': UK Govt Offer

UK's Homes for Ukraine scheme will allow individuals, charities, businesses and community groups to bring Ukrainian people fleeing the war with Russia.

New Delhi: The United Kingdom government has announced that British residents offering homes to the refugees from Ukraine will receive a "thank you" payment of £350 (around Rs 35,000) per month under a new humanitarian scheme to be rolled out this week, UK media reported.

The Homes for Ukraine scheme will allow individuals, charities, businesses and community groups to bring Ukrainian people fleeing the war with Russia, according to a report in Mirror.co.uk.

The report said sponsors can nominate an individual or family from Ukraine to stay in their home with them, or in a separate property, without paying any rent. Those sponsoring the refugees will be required to commit to the scheme for at least six months, but can keep up the offer for as long as they can.

According to the report, the Ukrainian applicants will be subjected to security checks, and those offering accommodation will be vetted.

The sponsors will receive a payment of £350 every month as a "thank you". A website set to launch on Monday will have all details about the sponsors offering expressions of interest.

Quoting the government, the Mirror report also said it is working to enable the voluntary sector, communities, and charitable and religious organisations to sponsor Ukrainian refugees.

As Europe opens its doors to Ukraine’s people fleeing the trouble-torn country, the UK government has faced criticism over its alleged less enthusiastic efforts to shelter the fleeing Ukrainians in the country.
