Former US President Bill Clinton Treated in California Hospital For Non-Covid Infection

The former President was diagnosed with sepsis, an infection of the bloodstream, which doctors believe started as a urinary tract infection.

New Delhi: Former US President Bill Clinton got admitted with a non-Covid-related infection, according to spokesperson on Thursday. Clinton, who is 75 year old, is suffering from a blood infection ws admitted in a hospital in Irvine in southern California on Tuesday evening, Angel Urena tweeted.

No other detail has been sahred other than that the infection was not Covid-related. "He is on the mend, in good spirits and is incredibly thankful to the doctors, nurses, and staff providing him with excellent care," Urena said.

The University of California Irvine Medical Center also confirmed Clinton being admitted there but didn’t divulge anything else. Urena tweeted a statement from Clinton's doctors saying Clinton was admitted "for close monitoring and administered IV antibiotics and fluids."

It added: "After two days of treatment his white blood cell count is trending down and he is responding to antibiotics well." The doctors said they are in non-stop touch with Clinton's New York-based medical team including his cardiologist and "we hope to have him go home soon."

Clinton served as America's 42nd president from 1993 to 2001. Earlier in 2004, the former president at the age of 58 underwent a quadruple bypass operation after doctors found signs of extensive heart disease. Soon after that episode, Clinton, who had a reputation for loving fatty foods, turned to vegan food.

Clinton, had attended a private event for his foundation was feeling unwell on Tuesday and was admitted to the hospital after testing, according to his office.

According to the CNN report, the former President was diagnosed with sepsis, an infection of the bloodstream, which doctors believe started as a urinary tract infection. Clinton will be given intravenous antibiotics until Friday, when he will likely be switched to oral antibiotics, said the report citing doctors. His vital measurements are all stable, the doctors added.
