Fashion designer Kate Spade’s father dies hours before funeral of daughter who committed suicide

Late designer's "heartbroken" father, Earl F. Brosnahan Jr, died the night before her scheduled funeral.

NEW DELHI: Just two weeks after American fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead in her apartment in New York, the globally acclaimed fashion designer's "heartbroken" 89-year-old father died at his home in the Midwestern US city. Late designer's father, Earl F. Brosnahan Jr, died the night before her scheduled funeral. The family informed that ‘He was sick and was heartbroken over the recent death of his beloved daughter’. (AFP PHOTO / Zack Seckler) The designer was found dead in her NY house by her housekeeper on June 5 at the age of 55. She suffered from depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses. She and her husband were living separately since last 10 months but were not legally separated. Spade launched her handbag company in 1993 with her husband, Andy Spade. Her company Kate Spade New York announced to donate $1 million to support suicide prevention and mental health awareness causes in her tribute.
