Donald Trump's Daughter-In-Law Lara Steps Back From Senate Run After ‘Thoughtful Consideration’
Lara Trump wished Florida Governor Ron DeSantis luck in hand-picking a replacement to serve out the remainder of Marco Rubio's six-year term, which ends in 2026.
US President-elect Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump said on Saturday, that she had removed her name from consideration to replace the outgoing US Senator Marco Rubio.
Lara Trump stepped down this month as co-chairwoman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), sparking speculation that she might succeed the Florida senator Rubio. In an X post, she squashed these speculations by revealing that she had removed herself from consideration "after an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many".

According to The Guardian, Rubio has been selected to serve as the secretary of state. While, Florida governor, Ron DeSantis will pick a replacement for Rubio, who is expected to resign from the Senate position when Trump assumes office on January 20.
She said she wished Florida Governor Ron DeSantis luck in hand-picking a replacement to serve out the remainder of Rubio's six-year term, which ends in 2026.
On X she said: "I could not have been more honoured to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I'm truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida."
She further said that she had a “big announcement” which she would share in January. She said she remains passionate about public service and looks forward to serving in the future.
Alongside her husband, Trump's son Eric, and his older brother Don Jr, she had become one of the leading campaign representatives for the Republican candidate in the run-up to the election. Lara Trump was elected as RNC co-chair in March, solidifying her father-in-law's influence over the party as he campaigned for the presidency, as per BBC.
As the face of the RNC, her focus was mainly on fundraising and public speeches. According to CNN, at the Republican National Convention she extended an olive branch to the fence-sitters, she said, “You didn’t have to love everything he tweeted, but you cannot deny you were better off when Donald Trump was in office.”
