3 Injured In Stabbing Attack In Train In Japan, Suspect Arrested
Three people were injured in a stabbing attack on a train in Japan. A 37-year-old suspect has been arrested in the matter.
A man has been arrested for attacking three people with a knife on a train in Japan on Sunday. The victims of the attack were a train conductor and two male passengers. All three were rushed to a hospital after the attack with non-life-threatening injuries, a fire official told AFP. The 37-year-old suspected attacker was armed with three knives when he was arrested at Rinku Town station in the Osaka region, AFP reported while citing local police officials.
Police arrested the 37-year-old for attempted murder and he has already admitted to carrying out the attack, a police official said, adding that they were still investigating the motive behind this attack, as reported by AFP.
Japan is a country with a low murder rate and some of the world's toughest gun laws which is why violent crime is very rare there. However, there could be occasional stabbings and even shootings, including the assassination of former prime minister Shinzo Abe which took place last year.
In 2021, a 24-year-old man allegedly stabbed a passenger and started a fire on a train in Tokyo on Halloween while wearing an outfit that resembled a comic book villain, the 'Joker'. The verdict regarding that case is due to be announced on July 31, reported AFP.
Earlier in May, Japanese Police arrested a man who was suspected of killing four people including two police officers in a gun and knife attack. He was apprehended from outside a farm property neat Nakano city's Nagano region. A police spokesperson while talking to the news agency AFP. He was holed up in a building after the attack. He allegedly stabbed the victims with a large knife before using a hunting rifle to shoot two policemen who were present there following an emergency call. The officers that were killed were identified as Yoshiki Tamai (46) and Takuo Ikeuchi (61).
