Volvo XC40 Launched In India At Rs 39.9 Lakh; Rivals Q3, GLA, X1

Volvo has launched the XC40 in India at a price of Rs 39.9 lakh, ex-showroom pan-India. The XC40 was globally revealed in 2017 and is the most affordable SUV in Volvo’s lineup. At launch in India, the XC40 is available in a single R-Design AWD variant which is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The XC40 is the first car to be based on Volvo’s smallest modular platform, known as the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA).

On the outside, the R-Design variant gets glossy black treatment for the roof, ORVMs and front grille. It runs on 20-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, it gets Charcoal interior (black coloured) with R-Design-spec seats, sports steering wheel and leather gear knob. There’s also an option of Lava (red) carpeting and door inserts to add to the sporty appeal. The R-Design variant is available in 3 exterior colour options: white, blue and red.

The XC40 R-Design packs features like Park Assist Pilot, which assists in parallel parking by taking control over the steering wheel. The safety net comprises of features such as driver, passenger and side airbags; and Pilot Assist, which allows you to stick to the lane and follow a car in front at a set distance up to a speed of 130kmph. Adaptive cruise control, electronic stability control, hill descent control and City Safety are also a part of the package. The City Safety feature, which is standard on all variants of the XC40 globally, applies the brake if it detects an imminent collision with other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals.

The features list further includes a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, handsfree boot opening, LED headlamps with active bending feature, 13-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Air Woofer Technology and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The XC40’s 2.0-litre diesel engine produces a maximum power of 190PS and peak torque of 400Nm. It is one of the most powerful diesel engines in the entry-level luxury compact SUV space, where it competes with the likes of the BMW X1Audi Q3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA.
