US NSA Jake Sullivan In New Delhi, Meets Indian Counterpart Ajit Doval, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who is on a visit to India, met External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval to discuss global, regional, and bilateral issues.

New Delhi: United States' National Security Adviser (NSA) Jake Sullivan, who is on a two-day official visit to India, met External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and his India counterpart Ajit Doval in New Delhi Monday.  

This is the first visit by a US official to India after Narendra Modi became the prime minister for a third term, signalling the resumption of India-US bilateral engagement. 

A delegation of senior US government officials, and also industry leaders, is learnt to have come with Sullivan. According to reports, he is expected to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi too.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar said they had a "comprehensive discussion" on a bilateral, regional and global issues. 

"Confident that India-US strategic partnership will continue to advance strongly in our new term," he posted. 

More details are awaited on what was discussed during the meeting of the two leaders.

iCET Review On Agenda

Sullivan also met NSA Doval Monday. 

The two NSAs have held regular consultations in the past on a range of matters, and this time too they are expected to discuss bilateral, regional and global issues, besides reviewing the India-US partnership on matters of mutual interest.

Sullivan and Doval will also hold the first annual review of the US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology iCET. Under iCET, both countries had decided to develop a bilateral Defense Industrial Cooperation Roadmap for technological cooperation for joint development and production, with an initial focus on exploring projects related to jet engines, munition-related technologies, and other systems.

Besides defence, the initiative also includes artificial intelligence, quantum, space, telecommunications, semiconductors, and biotech. 

On Tuesday, the two NSAs are scheduled to address an India-US iCET Roundtable organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry.
