'Brutality In Name Of Religion Cannot Be Tolerated': Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka, Owaisi React To Murder Of Tailor In Udaipur

Udaipur Murder: Congress National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi has also condemned the incident by tweeting and said that the culprits should be punished immediately.

New Delhi: The incident of two Muslim men beheading a Hindu man in Udaipur's Maldas street area in broad daylight on Tuesday, invited harsh condemnation from the leaders. Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also reacted to the incident saying in a video posted on social media that they avenged an insult to Islam and triggered communal tension in the Rajasthan city.

"I am deeply shocked by the heinous killing in Udaipur. Brutality in the name of religion cannot be tolerated. Those spreading terror through such brutality should be punished immediately," the Congress leader said in a tweet in Hindi.

"All of us have to defeat hatred together. I appeal to everyone to please maintain peace and brotherhood," he added.

Congress National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi has also condemned the incident by tweeting and saying that the culprits should be punished immediately.

"The culprits should get the harshest punishment. Spreading hatred and violence in the name of religion is fatal for our country and society. We have to together strengthen the efforts for peace and non-violence," she said in a tweet in Hindi.

In order not to spoil the atmosphere, internet service has been disrupted in the entire district. People are expressing outrage over the incident on social media. Meanwhile, Congress leader Pawan Khera has also reacted.

"Ashok Gehlot knows his Raj Dharma. Ours is a govt that has no tolerance for such heinous acts," he wrote on Twitter.

"Kanhaiya Kumar, Akhlaq and Pehlu Khan -- all became victims of hatred. Who is creating an atmosphere of fanaticism in the country? Who is creating controversies in society? Who is gaining political mileage by spreading hatred? Everyone knows who he is. Everyone is watching, but he is silent," Khera said in a tweet in Hindi.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted, "I condemn the gruesome murder in Udaipur Rajasthan. There can be no justification for it. Our party’s consistent stand is to oppose such violence. No one can take law in their own hands. We demand that the state govt takes strictest possible action. Rule of law must be upheld."

“The brutal murder in Udaipur is condemnable. No one can defend such a murder. The constant stand of our party is that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands. We have always opposed violence," he added.

“We demand that the government should take strict action against the culprits. The rule of law has to be maintained," said Asaduddin Owaisi.

Mobile internet has also been suspended in the city as Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot appealed for peace.

“A statewide alert has been issued to all SPs & IGs to increase the mobility of forces and to maintain officers on the ground. We're assessing the law and order situation to take further decisions," said the ADG (L&O), Rajasthan on the Udaipur murder.
