Toyota’s first-ever C-segment sedan helps carmaker register 20 per cent growth in May 2018
Toyota launched its first-ever C-segment sedan, the Yaris, on April 25 and commenced deliveries on May 18. The Japanese carmaker delivered around 1,000 units of the Yaris on the very first day itself and says it has received enough orders for the next two months. To fulfil these orders, it has now dispatched more than 4,000 units of the sedan to its dealerships across India.
This makes the Yaris as popular as the best-selling cars in its segment such as the Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. In fact, Maruti Suzuki recently announced that it too had dispatched 4,024 units of the Ciaz for the month of May 2018. To get a better perspective, take a look at the sales figures of popular C-segment sedans for the month of April 2018:
Model |
Price (ex-showroom Delhi) |
Sales (April ‘18) |
Honda City |
Rs 8.71 lakh to Rs 13.77 lakh |
3,366 |
Hyundai Verna |
Rs 7.8 lakh to Rs 12.95 lakh |
4,077 |
Maruti Ciaz |
Rs 7.83 lakh to Rs 11.51 lakh |
5,116 |
Since the Yaris has just been launched, we expect its sales figures to remain high in the first couple of months. Unlike its rivals, the Yaris is only available with a petrol engine. It is priced between Rs 8.75 lakh and Rs 14.07 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
In other news, Toyota announced that it registered a growth of about 20 per cent in the month of May 2018. The carmaker sold a total of 13,113 units, when compared to 10,914 in May 2017.
