Suzuki Jimny Prices And Details Leaked; July Launch For Japan
The Jimny is powered by Suzuki’s new 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that will soon be offered with the upcoming Ciaz facelift
The details and prices of the Japanese-spec fourth-gen Suzuki Jimny have leaked online ahead of its launch in Japan in July 2018. Set to go on sale in Suzuki’s home market soon, the fourth-gen Jimny comes 20 years after the introduction of the third-gen model. Like before, the Japanese market will get two versions of the small SUV: the Jimny and the Jimny Sierra. The former falls under Japan’s Kei car (small car) category, while the latter is the one that will be sold around the world.

As expected, the Jimny Sierra (known as the Jimny outside of Japan) is powered by Suzuki’s latest 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine. It is the same motor which will power the upcoming 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in India. The 1.5-litre engine in the Jimny is rated at 102PS and 130Nm. Both power and torque figures have improved when compared to the Jimny’s previous 1.3-litre engine, which only produced 85PS and 110Nm. Like before, the Jimny comes with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard, while there’s an optional 4-speed automatic gearbox too. As always, the Jimny continues to be equipped with a part-time four-wheel-drive system.

Although the tiny body-on-frame SUV has not been confirmed for India yet, the Jimny is expected to replace the Gypsy, which is expected to be discontinued soon as it unlikely to pass the stringent crash test norms that are set to be introduced in the country soon. According to the leaked details, the Jimny Sierra is priced from 1,760,400 Japanese Yen (~ Rs 10.88 lakh). The Indian version, however, is expected to be priced around Rs 8 lakh since it might not be offered with safety features like multiple airbags, autonomous braking and others as standard.
