National Herald Case: 'Unwell' Sonia Gandhi Writes To ED, Seeks Postponement Of Questioning

New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi, who was discharged on Monday from the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, has written to Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday seeking the postponement of her appearance in a money laundering case, said Congress' newly appointed general secretary in-charge of communications, publicity and media, Jairam Ramesh. "Since she has been strictly advised rest at home following her hospitalisation on account of Covid and lung infection, Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi has written to ED today seeking the postponement of her appearance there by a few weeks till she has recovered completely," the leader tweeted.

She was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi due to Covid-related problems. 75-year-old Sonia Gandhi was found infected with the Coronavirus on June 2. She was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on 12 June due to complications post-COVID-19.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued fresh summons to Sonia Gandhi to appear for questioning on June 23 in an alleged money laundering case related to the National Herald. 

Sonia was earlier asked to appear on June 8, but she was asked to give a new date to appear before the probe agency as she was infected with the coronavirus. The agency is already questioning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and he has now appeared before the ED.

Rahul Gandhi, 52, was questioned for over 30 hours by ED officials on three consecutive days on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday last week, during which his statements under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) were recorded.
