Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 To Be Priced Around Rs 2.5 Lakh In India
Sources close to the company hint that the Interceptor 650 could be priced well below Rs 3 lakh in India
- Unofficial bookings for the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 have already started
- Sources suggest the RE Interceptor 650 will be priced around 2.5 lakh (ex-showroom)
- We expect the Continental GT 650 to be priced around Rs 2.7 lakh (ex-showroom)
We had earlier reported that select Royal Enfield dealerships across India had started accepting bookings for the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 for a token amount of Rs 5,000. Following this, sources close to the company have suggested that the Interceptor 650 could be priced around Rs 2.5 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Considering that the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 share most of their components, we expect that the latter could carry a premium of Rs 20,000 over the former.
While we were expecting the Interceptor to be priced a little under Rs 3 lakh, this recent revelation suggests it’ll be priced well under. This essentially would make the RE Interceptor 650 the most affordable multi-cylinder motorcycle in India. Moreover, at this price point, the bike will not only undercut its competition by a margin but also eat into the 250-300cc motorcycle segment.
Powering both the bikes is the same air and oil-cooled, 270-degree, parallel-twin cylinder motor that has been built new from the ground up. It's good to make 47.6PS at 7100rpm and 52Nm of torque at 5200rpm and comes mated to a 6-speed transmission. Both bikes also feature a slipper clutch which prevents wheel hops during hard downshifts. Notably, the 270-degree parallel-twin engine sounds like a V-twin and is tuned to produce most of its power at low revs.
The company will officially launch both the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 on 14 November, 2018, with deliveries for the duo expected to follow suit by the end of the month. When launched, the Interceptor 650 will compete against the likes of the Kawasaki Z650 and Harley-Davidson Street 750.
The Interceptor is available in six different colours. However, each colour may carry a slight hike in price depending on the quality and finish of the paint job.
