A 21-year-old man was arrested by Nandagudi police for allegedly killing his 56-year-old uncle during an election-related celebration on Saturday. According to the Times Of India, the incident occurred at D Hosahalli village, near Hoskote, in Bengaluru Rural district. The accused had hacked him to death.

The accused, identified as G Aditya, nephew of the deceased, who was at large after the incident along with his father Ganesh and some other people, was arrested by the police, as reported by The Hindu. He was charged with the murder, while his father Ganesh is still at large. The police said that efforts are on to track him down, The Hindu reported. The deceased was identified as Krishnappa. His wife Gangamma and son Babu sustained injuries during the incident.

The Police revealed that an ongoing civil dispute between Krishnappa and his brother Ganesh was one of the reasons for the clash. Both families supported the Bharatiya Janata Party. But Ganesh and his son joined a group that was celebrating the victory of the Congress candidate in the recently concluded Karnataka Elections by bursting firecrackers, a police officer said, as reported by TOI.

The celebrations were held in front of Krishnappa's residence. Krishnappa and his family protested the group bursting firecrackers after which his nephew Aditya allegedly attacked him with an axe. Krishnappa died on the spot and his wife and son sustained injuries in the attack. In order to avoid unwanted incidents, Bengaluru district police deployed personnel in the village. SP Mallikarjuna Baldandi told TOI that Aditya is in custody and efforts are on to arrest Ganesh and others.

Meanwhile, the BJP supporters took Krishnappa's body to Nandagudi police station and staged a protest on Sunday. The agitators demanded that the accused be arrested. In the last week's election, the Congress won 135 seats and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 66 seats. Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) secured 19 seats. Independents have won two seats while Kalyana Rajya Pragathi Paksha and Sarvodaya Karnataka Paksha have won one seat each.
