Karnataka: Loudspeakers At Religious Places In Chikkmangaluru Not To Be Used Without Permission: Municipal Council

New Delhi: City Municipal Council of Chikkamagaluru in Karnataka on Saturday said that loudspeakers at religious places will not be allowed without the permission of Municipal Council and Police, reports news agency ANI. 

“Received complaints of noise pollution. So loudspeakers without permission from Municipal Council and Police won't be allowed. If unauthorised,it has to be removed,” said Varasiddhi Venugopal, President, City Municipal Council, Chikkamagaluru.

Venugopal further said that it will be applicable to all wards and churches, mosques, and temples have been asked to submit documents. 

“It will be applicable for all the wards. We have been informed to submit documents of churches, mosques and temples. We will talk to them. After verifying the documents, it will be enforced,” said the City Municipal Council President. 

Hijab Controversy 

The state of Karnataka is witnessing a thread of communally sensitive events one after the other. Recently the Hijab controversy had created a lot of stir where some Muslim girls were denied entry to the classroom for wearing hijab. The incident had led to protests in many parts of the country and the matter went to the Karnataka High Court.

The Karnataka High Court, on March 15, had pronounced its verdict saying that wearing of hijab was not an “essential practice” in Islam. Following the verdict, Udipi students who had filed the plea in Karnataka High Court, have challenged the Court’s order in Supreme Court. The apex court is still to hear the plea. 

Ban On Muslim Traders In Udupi Temple Premises

After the Udupi city saw huge protests following Karnataka High Court’s Hijab verdict, a temple in the district had recently banned Muslim traders to do business on its premises during the annual temple festival. 

The Maari Gudi temple management at Kaup town in Udupi took the decision on the request of certain pro-Hindu organisations, news agency PTI had reported. 

The ruling BJP had distanced itself from the matter which was even picked up in the State Assembly.
