K'taka BJP's Legislature Party Meet On Nov 17, Says Vijayendra. Likely To Elect LoP In Assembly

Karnataka BJP chief Vijayendra said the announcement regarding the Leader of Opposition will also be made based on the opinion of all legislators in the presence of central observers.

On the day he assumed the role of Karnataka BJP President, BY Vijayendra announced the forthcoming appointment of the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly. He disclosed that a Legislature party meeting is scheduled for November 17, during which the announcement on the Leader of the Opposition, likely to be determined at the meeting, will be made.

On Wednesday, Vijayendra formally took charge as the state BJP president. In response to a question, Vijayendra, as per PTI, said, "The Legislature Party meeting is scheduled for 6 PM on Friday. Central observers will be coming. According to the information, two observers will be coming. We will get to know tomorrow, as to who will be coming."

He said that the announcement regarding the Leader of Opposition will also be made based on the opinion of all legislators in the presence of central observers.

Till now, BJP has not appointed a legislature party leader who will also serve as Leader of Opposition of the principal opposition party in Karnataka Assembly.

Karnataka held an assembly session previously in July. During that time, the Assembly was held without the Leader of the Opposition.

However, Karnataka Assembly elections ended in May this year. The Congress got 135 seats, the BJP 66 and the JD(S) 19. The BJP legislative party meeting to elect its new leader has been scheduled ahead of the winter session of the state legislature in Belagavi, starting from December 4.

The party had been under severe criticism from the ruling Congress for its failure to fill the position, leading to dissatisfaction within the party due to the delay.

Stating that he has sought an appointment from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vijayendra said, after getting the appointment, he will be visiting New Delhi, during which he will also meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah, party's national president J P Nadda and party's general secretary (Organisation) B L Santosh, and seek their blessings.
