Yoga Day 2023: Army To Form 'Bharatmala', Conduct Yoga Sessions At 100-Plus Locations Along Borders

As per PTI, troops and their families including children and defence civilians will participate in the events. Additionally, locals will also take part in the events at places.

New Delhi: The Army will observe International Yoga Day on Wednesday by forming a 'Bharatmala' by conducting yoga sessions at over 106 locations along the country's land and maritime borders, PTI reported.

According to the news agency, troops will hold yoga activities at different border locations -- from the Dong Valley in Arunachal Pradesh to the sand dunes of Longewala in Rajasthan; and from the glacial heights of Siachen in the north to the southern tip of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Notably, the UN General Assembly had declared June 21 as the International Yoga Day following a resolution moved by India and co-sponsored by a large number of nations. The first International Yoga Day was observed on June 21, 2015.

As per the PTI source, troops and their families including children and defence civilians will participate in the events. Additionally, locals will also take part in the events at places.

Meanwhile, the Defence and military attache from other countries in Delhi have been invited to attend a central event organised at Delhi Cantonment, where Army Chief General Manoj Pande will be the chief guest.

Continuing with the enhanced Indo-Africa partnership, an outreach was also organised in African nations through Indian Army troops deployed in United Nations mission areas and in training teams as part of the UN contingents.

Meanwhile, the lawns of the United Nations headquarters are being prepared for the yoga day celebrations for the first time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on his first official visit to the US, will lead the world in celebrating the occasion from the UN headquarters on June 21.

This year's theme for International Yoga Day, 'Yoga For Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', reflects the essence of yoga as a unifying force that fosters the well-being of all, promoting the idea of "One World-One Family."

This will be the first time that the main Yoga Day ceremony is hosted abroad. Till last year, the primary Yoga Day ceremony was being held in India.
