Wrestlers Hold Mahapanchayat In Sonipat, To Resume Protest If No Action Is Taken By June 15 — Top Points

Delhi Police officials said over 180 individuals have been interviewed by the SIT as part of their inquiry.

New Delhi: Amid talks to resolve the issues of the wrestlers, who have been protesting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, grappler Bajrang Punia on Saturday said if their demands are not met, they will resume their agitation after June 15. He also said that the government has assured them that a chargesheet will be filed before June 15 and Brij Bhushan and his associates will no longer be a member of the WFI.

“We hope that our problems will be resolved before 15th June. Her (the minor girl) father said that there was a lot of pressure on him, which is why he took this decision to change his statement. He also said that his entire family was in depression,” news agency ANI quoted Bajrang Punia as saying.

Here are the key developments:

  • As the talks to resolve the issue is underway, the wrestlers have alleged that the sexual harassment victims are being put under pressure, news agency PTI reported.
  • The wrestlers protesting against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh held a mahapanchayat in Sonipat earlier in the day where grappler Sakshi Malik took a tough stand on their participation in Asian Games. Talking to the media in Sonipat, Malik said that they will participate in the Asian Games only when the matter is resolved.
  • "We will participate in Asian Games only when all these issues will be resolved. You can't understand what we're going through mentally each day," Sakshi Malik said.
  • According to officials, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Delhi Police that is investigating two cases of sexual harassment against the President of WFI and BJP MP from Kaiserganj, Uttar Pradesh, is expected to present its findings in court by next week.
  • Delhi Police officials said over 180 individuals have been interviewed by the SIT as part of their inquiry.
