'Certified Liar': Congress Slams PM Modi Over BJP's Claims Of Congress Stalling Women's Reservation Bill

Congress blamed BJP for dropping the Women's Reservation Bill that was brought by Rajiv Gandhi in Rajya Sabha in 1989.

The Congress party on Tuesday trained guns on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Women’s Reservation Bill dubbing him as “certified liar” as it blamed that the bill was dropped in Rajya Sabha in 1989 due to Bharatiya Janata Party leaders. The 108th Constitution Amendment Bill to reserve one-third, or 33 per cent of seats for women in Lok Sabha and state legislatures was passed by both the Houses of Parliament during the special session this month. However the act could come in force only after a delimitation exercise that would take place following the census implying that the act would not see light of the day in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Addressing a press conference, Congress leader Pawan Khera said, “PM Modi said in Madhya Pradesh Congress is opposed to the 'Women's Reservation Bill'. When Rajiv Gandhi ji brought the Women's Reservation Bill in 1989, BJP leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji, LK Advani ji, Ram Jethmalani ji, Jaswant Singh ji dropped this bill in the Rajya Sabha.”

Asking why the bill was not passed during the nearly 10 years of PM Modi’s term, Khera said, “And today when the bill has been brought, it will take about 10 years for it to become a law. This is your intention.”

“Sorry, but the Prime Minister of this country is a 'Certified Liar'.”

The opposition party also berated Modi for inviting female actors but not President Droupadi Murmu on the first day of session in the new Parliament building.

“The reality of PM Modi came to light the day when film actresses came to Parliament, but the President of the country was not there. That’s why Rahul Gandhi says that you are a casteist. You are against Dalits, tribals, minorities, women.”

“You could not expel Brij Bhushan Singh and talk about women's rights,” Khera said.

Since 18 Years In MP Yet PM Mentioned Congress 44 Times

Targeting Modi over his speech in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Khera said that the PM took the party’s name 44 times in his 51-minute long speech. “In a state where BJP has been in power for 18 years, you are taking the name of Congress 44 times. This indicates that the achievements of the government in Madhya Pradesh are 'Zero',” said the Congress leader.

Later, when asked about when the party would release its list of candidates when BJP has already released its second list, Khera said: "We will do it (release list of candidates) comfortably since we are certain (of victory in the upcoming MP Assembly polls). Those who are nervous, let's see what all they do."
