With love from Kochi: Volunteers extend help for deluge-hit people
Kochi (Kerala) [India], Aug. 19 (ANI): Extending their support towards deluge-hit Kerala, a team of volunteers from Kochi has established collection centres for relief materials. The volunteer group is named 'Anbodu Kochi' which means 'with love from Kochi'.
The team of 40, coordinates and channelises food and relief supplies towards shelter camps in villages and towns that are housing thousands of people who are now homeless in the aftermath of flooding. They have also started call centres to help victims, using phones and laptops, wherein they receive calls from those in need and then facilitate supply of the required goods.
Speaking to ANI, an Anbodu Kochi member Girish S Pradeep said "We started our helpline on August 16 and have three rescue numbers attached to it. From drinking water, ORS packets, toiletries, bags, sleeping mats, readymade food, clothes, utensils and blankets is all that we offer. We are also actively reaching out to people across social media for help and support. Collection centers have been set up at six different cities".
According to various media reports, several Malayalam actors and actresses are also part of this initiative by the Ernakulam district administration.
"We are closely associated with District Collector's team. We take requirements of callers and cater the same to respected departments," said another member, Saratha. (ANI)
