Winter Parliament Session: Lok Sabha adjourned till 12 Noon amid uproar over Rafale deal

New Delhi: The Triple talaq bill which seeks to make the practice of instant triple talaq among Muslim men a legal offence is likely to be discussed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. After the Congress party agreed to participate in the debate, the Lok Sabha had last week on Thursday decided to take up the bill on December 27. Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the Congress in the House, had suggested it be taken up for discussion next week and assured that the opposition would not disrupt proceedings in the Lower House. After a long weekend, Parliament is meeting on Thursday. The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12 Noon amid uproar over Rafale deal. The ruling BJP has issued a whip to its MPs, asking them to ensure their presence in the House on Thursday. Tomar's deputy Vijay Goel said the government is committed to pass the bill, which will benefit millions of Muslim sisters. He added that the Congress has assured of its participation in the discussion without any disruption. The Winter Parliament session has been witnessing disruptions over a range of issues, including protests by the Congress, which is demanding a joint parliamentary committee probe on the Rafale deal. The fresh Bill to make the practice of triple talaq among Muslims a penal offence was introduced in Lok Sabha on December 17 to replace an ordinance issued in September. Under the proposed law, giving instant triple talaq will be illegal and void, and will attract a jail term of three years for the husband. The fresh bill will supersede an earlier bill passed in the Lok Sabha and pending in the Rajya Sabha. The earlier bill was approved by the Lower House.
