Who Will Be The New Uttarakhand CM After Tirath Singh Rawat? BJP To Hold Party Meet Today
Tirath Singh Rawat on late Friday arrived at the Raj Bhawan where he submitted his resignation to the Governor.
Gairsain: In less than four months of taking the oath and holding the position of Uttarkhand Chief Minister, Tirath Singh Rawat submitted his resignation to BJP President JP Nadda and state governor Baby Rani Maurya at Raj Bhawan.
Rawat held a press conference and said that he is unable to get himself elected to the state Assembly within the stipulated six-month period.
Interestingly, while addressing the media Rawat restrained from speaking anything about the political crisis in Uttarakhand including his resignation. He rather highlighted the works done in the state during his small tenure of 115 days as Chief Minister.
Now, BJP will hold a legislature party meet at 3 p.m. on Saturday for which sitting MLAs have also been invited to choose the leader.
However, Tirath Singh Rawat’s resignation comes amid speculations that the BJP could pick a new leader as the chief minister. Who will be the next chief minister then? The names of Satpal Maharaj and Dhan Singh Rawat have emerged as frontrunners in the race for new CM, according to sources.
Apart from this, there are other two names doing rounds. The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of state president Madan Kaushik.
Tirath Singh Rawat had replaced Trivendra Singh Rawat on March 10 after he was similarly asked by the party to step down.
