Weather Updates: Heavy Rains Flood Mumbai, Bring Relief In Delhi; IMD Issues Alerts For THESE States

IMD said isolated, extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over parts of Goa, and Maharashtra on July 15 and 16 and in several areas of Karnataka and Kerala on July 15

Mumbaikars woke up waterlogged streets on Tuesday following heavy overnight rain across several parts of the city. As per the India Meteorological Department, the monsoon has started shifting downwards, due to which several western and southern states are likely to receive heavy rainfall. 'Red alert' was issued for several areas in Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra, and Karnataka for Monday. 

Showers also lashed Delhi and the national capital region, bringing much-needed relief from the sweltering heat. The weathermen said light rain and moderate-speed winds are expected in Delhi NCR in the coming days, but no color-coded alert was issued for the region.

IMD Forecast For Next 5 Days

  • In its forecast for the west, central, and south peninsular India, IMD said isolated, extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over parts of Goa, and Maharashtra on July 15 and 16 and in several areas of Karnataka and Kerala on July 15. 
  • "Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected over Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh from July 15 to 19. Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Vidarbha, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, North Interior Karnataka, and Marathwada region on July 15," a forecast said.
  • Heavy showers are also likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and North Interior Karnataka on July 15 and 16, and in Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, and at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat state during the next five days. 
  • For east and northeast India, IMD said heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Odisha on July 15, 17, and 18, in Arunachal Pradesh from July 15 to 17, in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on July 15 and 16 and in Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar on July 15. 
  • In northwest India, isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan from July 15 to 19 and in East Uttar Pradesh on July 15 and 18. 
  • Further, moderate rainfall is also very likely over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi during the next five days.
