An isolated hailstorm is also expected across Himachal Pradesh on February 2-3 and Uttarakhand on February 3-4, according to the IMD.
New Delhi: Northwest India, comprising Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, will have mild to moderate rainfall from today till Friday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
"Scattered light rainfall very likely over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on February 2, fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on February 3 and 4 with its peak intensity on February 3," IMD stated, as reported by news agency IANS.
An isolated hailstorm is also expected across Himachal Pradesh on February 2-3 and Uttarakhand on February 3-4, according to the IMD.
Rainfall is expected as a result of the effect of a new active Western Disturbance and the cyclonic circulation it has created.
The MeT Department informed that due to a confluence of lower-level westerlies associated with the Western Disturbance and lower level southeasterlies from the Bay of Bengal at lower tropospheric levels, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms or lightning is likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, and Odisha on February 3-4, with the possibility of isolated hailstorm over the region on February 4.
It further stated that a steady rise in minimum temperatures of 2-3 degrees Celsius is quite expected throughout much of northwest and central India during the next two days, followed by a drop of 3-5 degrees Celsius.
"Cold day to severe cold day conditions in isolated pockets very likely over north Uttar Pradesh, and Cold day conditions over Punjab, Haryana next 48 hours and abate thereafter," it said.
