Weather Update: Delhi-NCR To Receive Showers For Next Three Days, Rain Alert in Other States. Check Details

Conditions are likely to become favourable for withdrawal of monsoon from some more parts of northwest India towards the end of the week, said IMD

After the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a delayed withdrawal of the monsoon on Wednesday, heavy rains are expected to lash several parts of the country for the next few days.  Conditions are likely to become favourable for withdrawal of monsoon from some more parts of northwest India towards the end of the week. The withdraw from Central India is likely to take plaace from September 29- October 5.

Delhi & NCR

Meanwhie, the IMD has sounded a yellow alert of moderate to heavy rains in Delhi on Friday. The weather department warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas, occasional reduction in visibility, disruption in traffic, and possibilities of damage to the vulnerable structure. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory to commuters to travel with caution.  Private schools (up to class 8) have been asked to remain closed in Noida and Gurugram on Friday.

Delhi received 5.6 mm of rainfall on Wednesday, while 31.2 mm of rainfall was observed until 5.30 pm on Thursday.

The weather department issued a warning of more showers on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. “A fresh cloud is approaching towards Delhi leading to the possibility of light to moderate rainfall at most places with intense spells occasionally at a few places over Delhi and adjoining areas of NCR during next 3-4 hours," it said.

The reason behind the unusual rain is a rare interaction of two weather systems — a western disturbance and a low-pressure system — 250 km southwest of the city, according to scientists quoted in the Hindustan Times report.

Uttar Pradesh

Scattered/Fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very is also expected over east Uttar Pradesh on 22, 23, 25 and 26 September.

The changes in Delhi's weather system are impacting the weather conditions in the neighbouring states. It is likely that Uttar Pradesh will witness heavy rainfall in next three-four days. However, in Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, the intensity of rain has been reduced, predicted IMD scientists, according to publication Mint.

Other States

Rain is also expecetd in Madhya Pradesh on Friday. There is an interaction between a western disturbance and remnants of a low-pressure area over northwestern Madhya Pradesh--around 250 km southwest of Delhi. There is a lot of moisture supply from the Arabian Sea which is continuing. Such conditions will continue for the next 24 to 36 hours but the rainfall quantum will reduce on Friday, said RK Jenamani, senior scientist at IMD’s National Weather Forecasting Centre, reported Mint.

According to the met office, India had received seven percent excess rains, but eight states, including the rice bowls Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, received deficient rainfall which led to drop in the overall percentage.

Several northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, are likely to receive heavy showers till September 24. The weather agency said, "Fairly widespread/Widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls & thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Arunachal Pradesh during 22nd -24th; Assam & Meghalaya during 22nd-23rd Sep."
