New Delhi: As the intense heatwave conditions continue to prevail across different part of the country, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued yet another warning stating that the sweltering summer will intensify in the next five days in Northwest, Central and East India. 

The weather department has issued an 'orange' alert for Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and parts of Maharashtra, predicting a rise of another two degrees Celsius in northwest region.

On Thursday, the blistering heatwave conditions swept through Haryana and Punjab, with Gurugram recording a high of 45.6 degrees Celsius. Additionally, heatwave warning has been announced for states such as Delhi, Haryana, UP and Odisha.

1. A heatwave spell will intensify over northwest and central India during the next five days and over east India during the next three days, the IMD said on Thursday adding that a rise of about two degree Celsius in maximum temperature is very likely in most parts of northwest India during the next two days. The temperature will abate after that. 

2. Delhi on Thursday witnessed an intense heatwave that broiled people with temperature soaring to 43.5 degrees Celsius, the highest in April in 12 years. The mercury leaped to 46 degrees Celsius at Sports Complex, making it the warmest place in the capital. IMD has issued an 'orange' alert, warning the city residents of a severe heatwave on Friday.

3. Ridge (45.1 degrees Celsius), Mungeshpur (45.8 degrees Celsius), Najafgarh (45.4 degrees Celsius) and Pitampura (45.2 degrees Celsius) recorded the maximum temperature at least five notches above normal.

4. In states such as Jharkhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh, the maximum temperature were 3.1 degrees Celsius to 5 degrees Celsius above normal, with the mercury hitting 45.6 degrees Celsius at Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh.

5. Maximum temperatures were recorded between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius in  most parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. Gurugram was the hottest place in Haryana, while common capital Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees Celsius.

6. Meanwhile, weather experts have also said that temperatures may even leap to 47 degrees Celsius in parts of northwest India. 

7. A maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius is normal at places like Churu, Barmer, Bikaner, and Sri Ganganagar, but 45-46 degrees Celsius in the plains of north India by April end is quite unusual, an independent meteorologist told news agency PTI. 

8. IMD has also predicted that light or moderate rainfall is expected over Northwest India from May 2. Till then, maximum temperature will rise by about two degrees in most parts of Northwest India over the next two days.

9. The weather department has also warned people that such intense heatwave could lead to moderate health concerns for vulnerable people, including infants, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases.

10. It has advised people to avoid heat exposure and stay hyderated. The IMD has also suggested people to wear lightweight and light-coloured cotton clothes and cover the head by hat, umbrella etc.
