WATCH | Farmers Celebrate At Delhi’s Borders After PM Announces Farm Laws To Be Repealed

The announcement by the Prime Minister on repealing the controversial farm laws has induced a celebratory wave among the farmers at the Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur borders of Delhi.

New Delhi: The announcement by the Prime Minister on repealing the controversial farm laws has induced a celebratory wave among the farmers at the Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur borders of Delhi. In a video by the news agency ANI, farmers at the Ghazipur border can be seen celebrating with slogans like “Kisan Ekta Zindabad.”

On the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologised to the nation and announced that the farm laws will be repealed and the process for the same will begin by the end of this month. He said that since their government could not convince the farmers with the farm laws, the decision has been taken to take back the laws. The move by the centre has come in the purview of the upcoming elections in key states of UP and Punjab.

The controversial laws were--- The Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020.

Delhi’s borders were a witness to an almost year-long protest by the farmers after the controversial farm laws were passed by the government. Prior to PM Modi’s announcement, Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait had said that the farmer’s agitation will be intensified with tractors marching into Delhi if the laws were not taken back by November 26, marking one year to the protest.

Amid the political war of words in reaction to the centre’s decision, pictures of farmers celebrating are going viral on social media.
