Vehicles of GoI OR GoI’s Undertaking Must Be Scrapped After 15 Years: Union Minister Gadkari

Gadkari said that the policy document has been sent to all the states with advise to follow the suit.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday said that vehicles of the Government of India or the Government of India’s undertaking will have to be scrapped after 15 years, reported ANI.

He also advised state governments to scrap 15-year-old buses, trucks, and cars that come under their ambit and mentioned that the policy has been sent to all the states.

Speaking in Maharashtra, the minister said, “Vehicles of GoI or GoI's undertakings will have to be scrapped after 15 years, will not run on roads. GoI has sent this policy to all states. State governments too should scrap 15 years old buses, trucks, cars in depts that come under their ambit.”

Earlier in May this year, Gadkari announced his plan to have 2-3 vehicle scrapping facilities in every district across the country. The minister was speaking at the inauguration of a new Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Haryana.

He also mentioned using raw materials like old tyres in the construction of roads in the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the automotive scrappage policy also known as Voluntary Vehicle Fleet Modernisation Programme in August 2021. During the ceremony, he said that the policy would bring in an investment of around Rs 10,000 crore.

Under the policy, the government provides incentives to owners voluntarily scrapping their vehicles which includes a registration fee waiver on a new car.
