According to reports, a Lucknow Police team had gone to Mumbai on Friday and nabbed Feroz Khan, who is booked under the Gangsters Act, from Nallasopara area of Maharashtra's Palghar district near Mumbai.

They were returning with Khan when the accident occurred on Sunday morning on the Gwalior-Betul National Highway near Pakhriapura toll in Chanchoda area, around 150 km north of Bhopal, Guna Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar told news agency PTI.

Khan suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Four others, including two police personnel, were also injured and admitted to a hospital. They were discharged on Monday.

The body of the gangster has been sent to Bhopal for post-mortem. It will be brought to Bahraich either on Monday night or Tuesday morning.

The incident raises question as a similar incident took place in July when dreaded gangster Vikas Dubey, while being brought to Uttar Pradesh from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, was gunned down by the UP STF early morning on Friday in Kanpur.

The Police had then said that Dubey tried to escape after the vehicle in which he was travelling with the Police party overturned.

Many believe that Dubey would have been instrumental in unearthing the network between gangsters, politicians and policemen. His encounter also abruptly brought a full stop to the possibility of exposing the nexus.

As per reports, the slain gangster took three bullets to his chest and one on his arm.

Even a plea was moved in the Supreme Court seeking directions for the Uttar Pradesh government to conduct a thorough investigation into the killing/alleged encounter of five aides of Vikas Dubey, who might have been involved in the killing of eight Policemen in Kanpur on July 3.
