RAMPUR: Sanjeev Tyagi, Superintendent of Police, Rampur (UP), has been hailed as a hero as his alertness rescued a woman passenger and her daughter after bus staff and other men allegedly tried to assault them.

A woman, who introduced herself as a lawyer of the Supreme Court, had boarded an AC bus from Nainital to Delhi on Saturday night. While traveling, the bus driver along with his four staff members tried to take advantage of the woman and her daughter, and started misbehaving with them. Witnessing their hooliganism, the woman made several attempts to contact UP and Uttarakhand police control room but could not get any assistance.

The defenseless woman then searched the internet for the contact number of Sanjiv Tyagi, SP, Rampur and called him up.

"I am traveling from Nainital towards Delhi in a bus, UP 21 5252, whose current location is in Rampur (UP). The bus staff and some ruffians are misbehaving with us. They are drinking alcohol. I have been trying to contact police control room but not getting any assistance. We require immediate help" she told the SP on phone.

After listening to her call, the SP launched a hunt to locate and intercept the vehicle before the woman was hurt.

Tyagi put force on alert and asked the woman not to disconnect the call and hide the phone from the goons. He then led a team to intercept the vehicle and rescued the woman and her daughter unharmed.

"The police have registered an FIR as per her complaint and arrested five men and escorted the traumatised woman to her home town," SP Sanjiv Tyagi said.
