New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government has denied permission to a 5 member delegation led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to enter the Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday in wake of section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). 


Congress party in a letter addressed to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that a five-member delegation plans to visit the district on Wednesday. It further calls the detention of the Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra "without any reason or justification".


“Lucknow Police imposes restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC till November 8 to maintain law & order and ensure adherence to COVID rules in view of upcoming festivals, various entrance exams and farmers' protests,” ANI tweeted on Tuesday. 




The Congress leader has alleged that she was detained at Sitapur guest house for 38 hours illegally, as no FIR was provided to her. She was even denied permission to meet her legal counsel during the detention. 


However, later as per the SHO Hargaon Police Station, Sitapur district, an FIR was lodged against 11 people including Priyanka Gandhi, Deependra Hooda, and Ajay Kumar Lallu for disturbing the peace. 


As per the FIR, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was arrested under sections 151,107,116 and the PAC guest house has been converted as a temporary jail for the Congress general secretary. The FIR stated that she was arrested at 4:30 am on October 4  and not detained. The Hargaon SHO had also sent challan 151 to the magistrate after that.
