Unnao Rape Victim Won't Be Shifted To AIIMS In Delhi, Says Supreme Court
The condition of the rape victim and the lawyer is still critical, reports said.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday said the Unnao rape survivor won't be airlifted to AIIMS in Delhi that they want her treatment to continue at a hospital in Lucknow. The apex court said the victim's family at liberty to take call on shifting her to AIIMS from Lucknow hospital.
The apex court took note of a statement made by senior advocate V Giri that said the rape survivor is unconscious and on ventilator, and her family has expressed that she be treated at the Lucknow hospital for the time being. Giri is assisting the court as amicus curiae in the matter, reported PTI.
The Supreme Court ordered that transferring of the to Delhi be kept in abeyance for 15 days. The case will be heard in Lucknow till then, the apex court said. On Thursday, a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi had shifted the five cases related to the Unnao rape to Delhi and assigned a special judge to conduct day-to-day trials.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Gogoi, which heard the case today, directed media houses to not directly, indirectly or in any manner disclose identity of the victim.
It also ordered that the survivor's uncle, who is jailed in UP's Rae Bareli, be shifted to national capital's Tihar Jail immediately.
The Supreme Court has now deferred hearing in the rape case for Monday.
The top court's order on Thursday included compensation for the victim, shifting of cases to Delhi, daily trial to be completed in 45 days, security cover for the victim's family members, best medical treatment for the victim, completing of investigation within a fortnight by the CBI.
The BJP in midst of public outrage and opposition's attack, decided to oust its MLA Kuldeep Sengar (Unnao rape accused) from the party on yesterday.
The four-time Bangarmau legislator was arrested on April 13 in 2018 after the woman accused him of raping her at his residence in 2017 when she was a minor.
The woman met with a horrific road accident on Sunday in which she and her lawyer were critically injured and two of her aunts were killed when their car was hit by a speeding truck in UP's Raebareli. The girl's family has alleged that the accident was an attempt to eliminate her and wipe out her entire family.
