Ulhasnagar Firing Case: BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad, 4 Others Sent To 14 Days Judicial Custody 

Five accused including the BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad were sent to judicial custody for 14 days for allegedly firing at Shiv Sena functionary Mahesh Gaikwad in Ulhasnagar reportedly over a land dispute.

Five accused including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ganpat Gaikwad On Wednesday were sent to judicial custody for 14 days for allegedly firing at Shiv Sena functionary Mahesh Gaikwad in Ulhasnagar reportedly over a land dispute.

They were presented in the court and subsequently sent to 14 days judicial custody in the Ulhasnagar firing case, the ANI reported.

Gaikwad, who is three-time MLA from Kalyan East was earlier arrested for allegedly firing at Shiv Sena functionary Mahesh Gaikwad reportedly over a land dispute. Before his arrest, Gaikwad made statements to the media that the Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was behind the criminalisation of politics. 

Ganpat Gaikwad said that he used the firearm as his son was being beaten at the police station. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is trying to establish a "kingdom of criminals" in Maharashtra, reported PTI

“Yes, I shot (him) myself. I have no regrets. If my son is being beaten in front of the police inside the police station, what will I do,” Ganpat Gaikwad was quoted by PTI.

He further reportedly admitted to his crime and said he shot the Shiv Sena functionary himself and had no regrets. 

According to PTI, Ganpat Gaikwad’s son had come to the police station to file a complaint in connection with a land dispute when Mahesh Gaikwad arrived along with his men. Later, Ganpat Gaikwad also reached the police station.

On February 2, Gaikwad allegedly fired shots at Mahesh Gaikwad and Senior Inspector Rahul Patil inside Hill Line police station in Maharashtra's Ulhasnagar. 

During an altercation between the MLA and the Sena leader, Ganpat Gaikwad allegedly fired shots at Mahesh Gaikwad inside the senior inspector’s chamber, injuring him and one of his associates. 

Both Mahesh Gaikwad and Rahul Patil survived the shots but were injured and are being treated at Jupiter Hospital.
