Shiv Sena MP Gajanan Kirtikar on Monday said that party chief Uddhav Thackrey would announce his support to NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu in the upcoming Presidential elections, news agency ANI reported.
In a meeting held by Uddhav Thackeray on Monday, 16 MPs stated that the party must back NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu.
Kirtikar informed the media that 16 Sena MPs had agreed that Murmu should be supported since she is a "tribal community woman."
After the meeting, Gajanan Kirtikar said, "She is an NDA candidate but Droupadi Murmu belongs to the tribal community and is a woman. We should give her our support - this was the demand by all MPs (of the party). Uddhav ji told us that he will tell us his decision in a day or two."
"We had supported Pratibha Patil, a UPA candidate, as she's a Marathi woman. We had supported Pranab Mukherjee, a UPA candidate. Uddhav will announce support to her (Droupadi Murmu) as she's a tribal woman. We should see beyond politics for Presidential election," he further said.
