Kanhaiya Lal Murder: Protesters Attack Cop With Sword In Bhim, Prevented From Moving Towards Mosque

Bhima is the same place from where the accused in the Udaipur murder case were caught.

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing agitation against yesterday’s brutal killing of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, a police constable was seriously injured in his neck in Bhim, Rajsamand district of Rajasthan on Wednesday after a youth from the mob attacked a policeman. When the situation deteriorated, the police had to use tear gas shells to prevent the mob from marching toward a mosque. Bhima is the same place where the accused in the Udaipur murder case were caught.

"They were moving towards a religious place with the intention of attacking it. Someone from the mob hit a policeman with a sword. The injured policeman has been admitted to a hospital," Director General of Police M L Lather told a press conference here.

According to PTI, some youths in the crowd gathered during the protest started spoiling the atmosphere. When the police stopped, a young man from the crowd attacked Constable Sandeep Chaudhary's neck with a sword. After this attack, there was an atmosphere of tension on the spot.

On the other hand, Constable Choudhary has been admitted to JLN Hospital in Ajmer where he underwent surgery.

Ashok Gehlot chaired a high-level meeting on Wednesday afternoon at the Chief Minister's residence regarding the Udaipur incident. In this, while giving detailed information about the incident to CM Gehlot, the police officials said that the local police had acted in this incident under Sections 16, 18 and 20 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 and Section 302, Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code. Cases have been registered in 153B, 295A, 452 and 34.

It was told in the meeting that the investigation has been started by NIA. In the investigation, NIA is being fully supported by the Special Operation Group (SOG) and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the state.

“The case will be investigated by the NIA and the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Rajasthan Police will fully cooperate with the probe agency,” Gehlot said while chairing a high-level meeting in Jaipur over the Udaipur incident.

Meanwhile, One of the two accused, Ghouse Mohammad, who carried out the brutal murder of a tailor in Udaipur has links with Pakistan-based organisation Dawat-e-Islami and had visited Karachi in 2014, the Rajasthan Police chief said on Wednesday. Addressing a press conference, Director General of Police (DGP) ML Lather said police had detained three more people in connection with the murder of Kanhaiya Lal.

Two men, identified as Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, allegedly hacked Kanhaiya Lal to death with a cleaver at his shop in Udaipur on Tuesday, prompting massive protests in the area. In a video clip posted online, one of the assailants said they had beheaded the man and also threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
