'They Look Like Surpanakha': BJP Leader Kailash Vijayvargiya's Controversial Remark On How Women Dress
BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya has stoked a controversy after he compared women to 'Suparnakha' on the basis of how they dress.
Bhartiaya Janta Party (BJP) national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya has stoked a controversy after he commented on how women dress these days. Vijayvargiya compared the dressing of women in the present time with 'Surpanakha', the sister of demon king Ravana. He was speaking at an event organised by the Jain community on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He said that he couldn't see the image of 'goddess' in women because they dress in such a bad way.

Vijayvargiya said, "When I see boys and girls dancing in an inebriated state, I feel like slapping them 5-7 times so that all of their intoxications go away."
He further said, “I am telling the truth, I swear to God, I will not lie on Hanuman Jayanti. Girls come out dressed in such bad clothes that we can never call them goddesses, we do not see them in the form of a goddess, they look like ‘Shurpanakha’."
"God has given them (women' such beautiful body, wear some good clothes at least," he added. Vijayvargiya began speaking on the issues of drugs among youth. Women organisations have condemned the statement saying it's the will of women what they want to wear.
Last year in August, Kailash Vijayvargiya had said that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was similar to women in foreign nations who change their boyfriends any time. He launched a scathing attack on Kumar for severing ties with the BJP in the state and joining hands with the RJD-led Grand Alliance.
"When I was travelling abroad, someone there said that women there change their boyfriends at any time. Bihar CM is also similar, never know who's hand he may hold or leave," ANI quoted Vijayvargiya as saying.
Nitish Kumar severed ties with BJP for a second time in eight years and joined hands with RJD and other opposition parties. Nitish had dumped the BJP in June 2013 too. Kumar had ended his relation of 17 years with NDA after the BJP named then Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate.
