Terrorists attack Army patrol party: 2 personnel, 1 civilian injured in Shopian, J&K
New Delhi: In yet another incident, two Army personnel and a civilian injured on Thursday after terrorists attacked an Army patrol party in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Interestingly, earlier in the day, reacting to the barbaric killing and mutilation of two Indian soldiers along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat said that the security forces will retaliate to these kind of actions.
"We don't talk about future plans beforehand; we share details after execution," Rawat said on a possible action following beheading of Indian soldiers.
He said Army has beefed up its counter-infiltration posture in Jammu and Kashmir.
The army chief warned that infiltration is expected to increase in summer once the snow starts melting.
"We are taking measures, have beefed up our counter infiltration posture to take care of the situation. Terrorists are going to attempt infiltration as snow starts melting during summer months," he said.
Earlier, Vice Chief of Army Staff Sarath Chand had also said the killing of the two soldiers and beheading them showed frustration of the Pakistan military and asserted that it will never be able to justify the action.
"I do not want to say what we will do. Instead of speaking, we will focus on our action at a time and place of our choosing...They (Pakistani army) have said it was not done by their forces. Then who did it. Their people came to our area and did it. They will have to take responsibility and face consequences for it," Chand said.
Security forces on Thursday launched a massive anti-terror operation and cordoned off almost two dozen villages in the area.
Considering an increase in militancy related incidents in the area in the past few days, the search operations were launched.
Suspected terrorists barged into a police post guarding the court complex of southern Shopian late on Tuesday night, and fled with five service rifles. The terrorists decamped along with five service rifles including four INSAS rifles and an AK-47 rifle.
